The Birth Place

At The Birth Place, you'll find everything you need to make your birthing experience a memory to cherish for many years to come.

We realize that there are so many decisions to make when you're expecting, but none are as important as choosing the health care partners who will help deliver your new bundle of joy. With our experienced staff, exceptional facilities, Neonatal Intensive Care Units, innovative programs and high quality of care, it's easy to see why so many new parents are choosing AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center as the best place to have their baby.

Our family centered birthing suites are quiet and calming. Every room at The Birth Place is private and designed to enable mother, baby, and family to bond during their stay with us. Your entire birthing experience takes place in a private labor, delivery and recovery (LDR) suite, complete with a bathroom and shower. Every postpartum room is also private.

Anesthesia is available at all times for patients choosing this method of pain relief during labor, delivery or for caesarean sections.

Our postpartum staff is specially trained to offer all the support and encouragement you and your newborn need while you are with us. Our educational team is available to help you with one-on-one breastfeeding instruction and baby care designed to complement your prenatal education.

Delivering Your Baby at The Birth Place

  • You will deliver in a labor, delivery, and recovery room (LDR) and will stay 1-2 hours after birth (for vaginal delivery).
  • Immediately after birth, we practice skin to skin contact for an enhanced bonding experience for newborns and parents.
  • The Birth Place has a lactation consultant on-site to assist you in breast feeding.
  • Your baby's security is very important to us. You will be informed about the specifics of our infant safety procedure upon your arrival. For information about the electronic security device placed on your baby's ankle, please see our Keeping Your Baby Safe section.
  • Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is for babies that need observation, medication, or treatment. We will inform you if your baby is transferred to the NICU.

Visiting Policies at The Birth Place

All visitors must wait outside the LDR for the first hour and a half after delivery.
  • This private time is used specifically to acquaint the newborn with his/her parents.

After the skin to skin bonding
, two (2) people are allowed to visit at a time in the LDR.
All other visitors can either rotate in to visit, or they may wait in the Labor and Delivery waiting room.
  • We understand that this is an exciting time for families and friends, but due to fire department regulations, we cannot have people waiting in the hallways.
  • Our two person visitation policy is also for the baby's protection and infection control; we ask that visitors utilize the waiting room and rotate visitation.
    • Only siblings of the baby are allowed to visit. Other children may visit if they are 12 and older.

Keeping Your Baby Safe

Infant security is a top priority at AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center. We strongly encourage you to help us keep your baby safe during your stay with us.

Here's how:
  • NEVER leave your baby unsupervised.
  • Please follow our visitor guidelines.
    • Daily visiting hours are from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.
    • Unlimited visiting hours are provided to fathers/significant others.
    • Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to visit unless they are siblings of the newborn.
    • Please limit the number of visitors in your room at all times; a waiting room is available to help you accommodate this request.
    • Visitors with signs of a communicable disease or infection, including colds and flu, may not visit.
  • Try to keep your infant on the farthest side of your room, away from the door.
  • Only give your baby to the appropriate staff members.
    • Information about how to identify these staff members will be given to you upon your arrival.
  • If anyone comes into your room and suggests it is time for tests or lab work that you don't know about, contact your nurse immediately.
  • If you are ever unsure about who is taking your baby, check with your nurse immediately.
  • We never transport babies in our arms; we always use their cribs.
    • If anyone tries to carry your infant out of the room, contact the nurses' station immediately.
  • Please make arrangements for your baby's safe arrival home by making sure you bring clothes and a car seat for your baby's discharge from the hospital.
    • Discharge time is at 11:00 am.

Infant Security System

Your infant will have an electronic device placed on his/her ankle. Please do not disturb or remove this tag during your hospital stay. This device is used to identify your baby and will be removed when he/she is discharged from the hospital.

You, your significant other, and your baby will have matching numbered ID bands applied immediately after birth. Please do not remove these bands during your hospital stay. They are a secondary form of identification for you and your baby.

If you happen to lose your ID band, please notify your nurse immediately. The bands will need to be changed and reapplied.
