Surgical Services

After Surgery

  • You may not be ready to leave the hospital for several hours following your operation, depending on the specific procedure and anesthesia.
  • Your nurse will review any special instructions about diet, activity, and medications following your procedure. Your nurse will also talk to you about follow-up care recommended by your doctor.
  • Your hospital stay may be extended, if your doctor determines that overnight observation is required.

At Home:

  • Be sure to rest for at least 24-48 hours after surgery.
  • Notify your doctor if you develop a fever, excessive pain or problems with the wound area, such as drainage.
  • A nurse will contact you at home to check on your progress.
