AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center is participating in the Medline Pink
Glove Dance to honor healthcare workers and raise awareness for breast cancer.
Since 2011, Medline has hosted the Pink Glove Dance competition where hospital
teams collaborate and produce a music video that focuses on Breast Cancer
awareness, prevention, treatment, caregivers and patient survivors. After
the video is produced it will be placed online for the public to review
and vote for the video that best represents these elements.
The hospital that receives the most votes will have $10,000 donated to
their designated Breast Cancer charity. If the video is selected as best
overall, an additional $5,000 will be donated to the designated charity.
ARMC’s chosen charity is
The National Breast Cancer Foundation. The National Breast Cancer Foundation's mission is to provide help
and inspire hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection,
education, and support services. The National Breast Cancer Foundation
was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor, Janelle Hail . She was
diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 34. At the time of
her diagnosis, there was little information about the disease, and she
was forced to make a decision about her health with few options. After
her treatment, Janelle made a commitment to help women around the world
by educating them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
The Pink Glove competition started because of the overwhelming and enthusiastic
response to the original Pink Glove Dance video, featuring 200 workers
from Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Oregon dancing
in support of breast cancer awareness and prevention. To date, the original
video has more than 13.8 million views and more than 18,000 comments on
YouTube. In 2011, Medline launched a competition open for anyone who wanted
to make their own Pink Glove dance video. Since then, over 200,000 people
have danced in the competition, and the number keeps growing!
