Outpatient Services
Outpatient Rehabilitation provides Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy
and addresses a wide range of injuries and disorders.
Physical Therapy
Physical Therapists emphasize an overall recovery of the individual through a primarily exercise-based
program. Emphasis on home exercises is high to help assure carryover and
continued pain free activity once the patient is discharged. We also offer
additional modalities such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, iontophoresis,
manual therapies, joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, and taping
techniques.
Some conditions treated at AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center:
- Low back problems including muscle strain, pain associated with disc bulges,
and pain due to arthritis, degenerative disc or joint disease.
- Post-operative joint replacement
- Shoulder problems including tendonitis, frozen shoulder, and rotator cuff problems
- Acute or chronic neck strain
- Foot and ankle problems
-
Knee problems including post-operative surgeries, ligamentous strains,
tendonitis, patellar problems
-
Neurological deficits including gait instability and balance problems associated
with stroke or other disorders
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists provide specialized treatment for patients working
to regain their independence in performing activities of daily living
(dressing, eating, bathing, grooming, meal preparation, etc.) Common problems
addressed are debilitation or impaired function due to illness, injury,
trauma to upper extremities, and neurological deficits due to stroke.
Occupational Therapists also specialize in rehabilitation of the hand.
Treatment typically includes therapeutic exercises, manual stretching,
joint mobilization, scar massage, splint fabrication, and modalities including
electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and paraffin wax treatment.
Conditions treated include:
- Repetitive stress injuries
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Tendonitis
- Hand/wrist trauma including fractures
-
Post-operative hand surgeries
- Chronic conditions including arthritis and reflex sympathetic dystrophy
Speech Therapy
The Speech Therapy team provides a variety of services to help adults develop
and improve functional skills in their swallowing, speech, language, and
voice abilities.
Conditions treated by Speech Therapy:
- Swallowing difficulty (such as dysphagia, coughing/choking with food or
liquids, recurrent aspiration pneumonias)
- Difficulty with communication (such as aphasia, apraxia, word-finding difficulties)
as a result of illness, surgery, stroke, or injury
- Patients who are having difficulty with their voice production (such as
those diagnosed with vocal nodules or polyps, hoarseness, dysphonia) as
a result of illness, surgery, stroke, overuse, or injury
- Patients who are having severe speech disorders who require augmentative
alternative communication (AAC) systems in order to communicate with others
more easily and effectively.
